Georgia deserves the BEST.
Building Economic Security Together (BEST) Georgia is a collaborative effort to build and implement a proactive economic security agenda for the state.
In Georgia, both inside and outside the state capitol, proposed solutions to economic insecurity are not centered around the needs of Georgians.
Georgia’s current economic system keeps wages low, and lacks state-level protections against discrimination and harassment in workplaces. There is also insufficient support for basic needs programs for Georgians to care for themselves and their families. State policies do not do enough to remove barriers to economic opportunity for all Georgians.
Georgia can do better.
BEST GA has three pillars that form the foundation of our plan for change:
Building a Robust Safety Net
Job Quality
Removing Barriers to Economic Opportunity
Building a Robust Safety Net
The safety net offers critical support to Georgians when work is unavailable to them, inappropriate for their circumstances, or does not pay enough to make ends meet.
When basic needs programs-like cash and food assistance- work well, they support child development, individual health, family stability, and educational and work opportunities. How can Georgia strengthen and protect these programs to ensure individuals, children, and families can stay nourished, housed, and supported during rough times?
Job Quality
Georgians deserve access to quality jobs that are grounded in livable wages, fair scheduling practices, and fair access to paid leave, overtime pay, and skills training as a means to career mobility and flexibility.
Georgians should also have access to protections which safeguard their pay and health in the event of harassment, injury, job loss, or unforeseen emergencies. How can Georgia best meet the needs of workers?
Removing Barriers to Economic Opportunity
In a people-driven economy, the activities and contributions of individual people are the source of prosperity and solid communities. When Georgians are excluded from and/or face barriers to contributing to our economy and communities, it impacts all of us.
An inclusive economy is one where barriers to achieving economic security and opportunity are removed for groups regularly left out, including Georgians with low incomes, justice-impacted Georgians, and others. How can Georgia’s leaders ensure equitable access to economic opportunity?
BEST Georgia seeks to include Georgians in the effort to build a state where every person can thrive.
